Jurgen Klopp could have stumbled across his next job (Image: Getty)
Jurgen Klopp could be set to see the path cleared for him to become Germany’s national team manager once he leaves Liverpool. The ex-Borussia Dortmund boss has been heavily linked with the position previously, and there could be a vacancy in the dugout if Julian Nagelsmann opts to return to club football. Klopp revealed in January that he would be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season as he is ‘running out of energy’ on Merseyside.
The German felt that it was his responsibility to walk away from his beloved club when the time was right, knowing that owners FSG would never have sacked him. The Reds promptly sprung into life in the managerial market, with Xabi Alonso emerging as the frontrunner to succeed Klopp. The Bayer Leverkusen boss snubbed the approach though, with Liverpool turning their attention to Sporting’s Ruben Amorim as a result. Klopp insisted in his shock announcement that he will be spending at least a year away from football once he has stepped down as Liverpool manager.
However, the 56-year-old could be tempted to reconsider his stance on the matter. Julian Nagelsmann is the subject of Premier League interest (Image: Getty)
According to Sport1, Germany national team boss Nagelsmann has received an offer from an ‘unknown’ Premier League club ahead of next season. The ex-RB Leipzig has been heavily linked with a move to England previously, having been considered one of the leading candidates to replace Graham Potter at Chelsea last year. Manchester United and Newcastle have both been credited with holding an interest in Nagelsmann previously, and both projects could prove persuasive to the former Bayern boss.
As a result, Klopp could be monitoring his situation closely in case the German national team require a new manager. Jurgen Klopp previously insisted that he will spend a year away from football (Image: Getty)
The German Football Association (DFB) have made it no secret previously that they would be keen to acquire the services of Klopp at some stage, and they could be offered the chance to do so once the Euros have concluded, when Nagelsmann is likely to weigh up all of the options on the table. As he leaves Liverpool, Klopp is keen to bow out by winning a treble – though his chances of achieving such a feat were damaged on Thursday night when his side were beaten 3-0 by Atalanta in the Europa League.
