The German FA may have paved the way for Jurgen Klopp to take over as their national team manager. This possibility arose after Rudi Voller, a strong supporter of Klopp, extended his tenure as director until the 2026 World Cup.
Voller has previously expressed his belief that Klopp is destined to take over the reins of the national team. In an interview with Sky90, Voller confidently remarked: “I do believe that Jogi Low can still do it for a while, but at some point it will be Jurgen Klopp.”
This statement was made months before Joachim Low announced his departure from the managerial position after a 15-year stint. Low’s tenure concluded with a last-16 exit at the hands of England at Euro 2020, which was held in 2021.
His successor, Hansi Flick, was dismissed in September of last year, making way for Julian Nagelsmann. Despite leading Germany into the upcoming Euros, Nagelsmann’s future post-tournament remains uncertain as he contemplates a move back to club management.
Klopp’s anticipated homecoming to manage the national team could be realized if Nagelsmann exits. The 56-year-old Klopp is planning to take a sabbatical until 2025 once his stint at Liverpool comes to an end this summer.
He could then work with Voller to take Germany into the 2026 World Cup. Voller, after committing to the DFB, expressed his growing personal attachment to the association and the national team.
He aims to use his experience to ensure the success of Germany’s most important football team, including the upcoming European Championships. Voller also mentioned his enjoyment working with the DFB officials from the senior national team right down to the youth teams.
