The winger’s impressive performance, with five goals and three assists in his last 10 Premier League appearances, has prompted this request. Liverpool, however, is reportedly surprised by the timing of his request and his recent links with other clubs.
Liverpool is reportedly open to discussions about an extension with Diaz but has communicated to his representatives that it is not a priority at the moment. The matter will be revisited in the summer, and the club’s new CEO of Football, Michael Edwards, is handling the situation.
Edwards has returned to Anfield after two years and will now work under the club’s owners rather than overseeing all football matters at Liverpool. Richard Hughes will take over Edwards’s previous role.
The impending arrival of Hughes is seen as crucial in persuading Edwards to return. Liverpool is also expected to undergo a summer of transition, with a new manager, likely to be Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim, and the pressing dilemma of Mohamed Salah’s future, as he will have only 12 months remaining on his contract come summer.
