Chido Obi-Martin, a bright academy star for Arsenal, is at risk of being lost to European rivals as he has garnered attention with his impressive goal-scoring performances. Having scored seven times against Norwich under-18s and 10 goals past Liverpool’s youth team, he has attracted interest from suitors abroad.

Due to differing rules in England and other European nations regarding dual-nationality teenagers, Obi-Martin may be offered professional terms by clubs like Bayern Munich before Arsenal can secure him to a new contract. Despite this, Arsenal remains hopeful of keeping him and is currently in negotiations with his representatives, although they may need to wait six months to finalize the deal. Following Brexit, players in the English top flight with EU passports can move to clubs within the EU for FIFA stipulated compensation, which is a cheaper alternative to tribunal fees between clubs in England.

This compensation is paid to a player’s original club on every move until the season when they turn 22. However, there is hope for Arsenal as Obi-Martin has expressed his commitment to the club and his desire to stay for the long term. He praised the development path to the first team and the opportunities given to young talents at Arsenal.

He also mentioned the potential opportunity to play permanently at U21 from the next season, highlighting his enthusiasm for the club and his positive experience there.
