The former Red Devils interim boss is the frontrunner to replace Thomas Tuchel at Bayern in the summer. Rangnick, currently in charge of Austria, has not managed a club since his brief spell at United before Erik ten Hag’s arrival.

However, he is thought to have emerged as Bayern’s top choice after the German giants failed to land Julian Nagelsmann and Xabi Alonso. It is said that Jeremie Frimpong and Frenkie de Jong are among the names on Bayern’s radar. Frimpong, reportedly admired by Rangnick during his time at United, has a release clause of around £34million set to become active in the summer.

The Red Devils are keen on bringing him to Old Trafford. De Jong, heavily linked with United for several years, remains tied to Barcelona until the summer of 2026. Bayern will be operating in the bidding for Frimpong and De Jong later this year, and Rangnick would be delighted to have both players at his disposal if he joins Bayern.

The 65-year-old confirmed that he was in talks with Bayern over the managerial vacancy, saying, “They contacted us and I also informed the OFB about it. My focus is on the Austrian national team. At the moment there is no reason to deal with it intensively and specifically.”

“It won’t play better just because I say: ‘I’ll definitely be here for the next four years’. If I want to do something different, I will first discuss it with the OFB. It’s about other things.

Can I make a difference? Is there a chance of developing a team and being successful? That’s what drives me.”
