Paris Saint-Germain could scupper Tottenham’s summer transfer plans by acquiring the services of Chelsea star Levi Colwill. Chelsea are keen to splash the cash this summer, but outgoings are viewed as being equally as important.
The Blues need to raise funds to improve their Profit and Sustainability rules (PSR) status and ensure that they do not become the latest side to receive a punishment from the Premier League. Offloading homegrown players is therefore viewed as a key element of ensuring that they stay on the right side of the regulations as the fees received will represent pure profit on their balance sheet. Armando Broja and Ian Maatsen are among those who could depart, with Conor Gallagher also facing being forced out of Stamford Bridge. PSG could be set to throw a spanner in the works for Spurs though.
Selling Colwill for a hefty figure would grant the Blues plenty of spending power at a time when they truly need to. The fee raised would also mean that Chelsea could reconsider whether they truly need to sell Gallagher, especially as Pochettino is keen to continue working with the England international. The midfielder remains an important figure for the Blues and has received countless messages of his support. Tottenham will therefore be hoping that PSG divert their attention to alternative defensive targets to ensure that they can strike a deal for Gallagher before it’s too late.
