Unai Emery signs new contract with Aston Villa to ward off Bayern Munich interest

Unai Emery, Manager of Aston Villa, was interviewed prior to the UEFA Europa Conference League 2023/24 Quarter-final first leg match between Aston Villa and Lille OSC at Villa Park on April 11, 2024 in Birmingham, England. The rapid initiation of contract negotiations is believed to have been sparked by rumours of interest in Emery’s services from clubs across Europe.

Villa’s owners have now secured the future of the 52-year-old with a renewed contract, as reported by the Mirror. Emery dispelled rumours of his association with the Bayern Munich job following Sunday’s win over Bournemouth, stating: “I am focused here, 100 per cent.”

This declaration came after Bayern’s sporting director and Germany legend supported Emery as a serious contender for the role. Lothar Matthaus praised Emery’s credentials on Sky Germany, stating: “I would get Unai Emery from Aston Villa.

He’s doing a great job there. He has a lot of experience – including internationally – and he has titles to his name with Sevilla, for example.”
