Chelsea’s win over Everton was tarnished by an altercation prior to Cole Palmer’s penalty. Three Chelsea players – Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke, and Nicolas Jackson – disputed who should take the second-half penalty. Captain Conor Gallagher had to intervene to settle the dispute. Despite being four goals ahead, the players could not decide.
Ultimately, Gallagher took control and handed the ball to Palmer. Jackson, unhappy with the decision, attempted to take the ball from his teammate. Nevertheless, Palmer successfully converted the penalty, maintaining his perfect record. The incident did not overshadow Palmer’s exceptional performance, as he scored a hat-trick, and Jackson also scored, securing a comprehensive victory for Chelsea.
Despite this incident, it was an exceptional evening for Chelsea. Palmer’s impressive performance included a goal in the 13th minute and a hat-trick before the half-hour mark. Jackson also scored before the altercation over the penalty. Everton faced further misery with an added-time goal from Alfie Gilchrist.
Consequently, Chelsea moves within three points of the European places. Their next challenge will be the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City at Wembley on Saturday.
