Roy Keane expresses major concerns about Dan Ashworth as Manchester United nears signing Newcastle player.

Dan Ashworth, the sporting director of Newcastle United, is being considered as a potential solution to Manchester United’s problems as they enter the new era under the ownership of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS. Negotiations are underway to lure Ashworth from Newcastle to Manchester United as part of a revamp of their recruitment department. The impending takeover by INEOS is set to bring about significant changes, with Omar Berrada already appointed as the new chief executive of the club. Ashworth has been with Newcastle since the summer of 2022, having previously worked at Brighton and Hove Albion.

However, his reported eagerness to explore a new opportunity has raised concerns for some, including former footballer Roy Keane. Keane expressed doubts about Ashworth’s long-term commitment, citing his relatively short stints at previous clubs and questioning whether he might leave for another high-profile position in the future. Ashworth’s career in football administration began after his retirement as a player, starting as the academy director for Peterborough United in 2000. He went on to hold various roles at clubs such as Cambridge United and West Bromwich Albion before joining the FA in 2012, where he served as the sporting and technical director for five years.

The potential move of Dan Ashworth to Manchester United has sparked discussions and speculation within the football community, as the club seeks to make strategic appointments to address their challenges and ambitions for the future.
