Wycombe Wanderers are mourning the tragic passing of Adam Ankers. The 17-year-old footballer sadly died after falling ill while playing a match for the club. Adam, a dedicated fan, season ticket holder, and player for Wycombe’s Under-19s foundation team, became unwell during a game last week and later passed away in hospital.
His dad, Alastair, shared the heartbreaking news on social media on Tuesday. He expressed the devastating loss and stated that Adam will always be remembered. The team’s first-team manager, Matt Bloomfield, expressed shock and sadness at the news.
He mentioned that Adam was taken ill while playing the game he loved and expressed deepest condolences to his friends, teammates, and family. Mark Gaitskell from the Wycombe Wanderers Foundation also expressed distress at the loss of the talented and much-loved young man. He mentioned that the news of Adam’s passing has deeply affected everyone, and they are considering how to best pay tribute to him and create a legacy in his name.
Wycombe Wanderers are planning to pay tribute to Adam during their next home game at Adams Park on February 17, where they will meet League One opponents Oxford United.
