Ansu Fati transfer blow deals Liverpool setback as Barcelona plan Brighton exchange

The winger has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield over the past few weeks. However, a deal may not now be plausible as Barcelona are reportedly planning to use him as a makeweight in another transfer. The Reds are currently top of the Premier League, winning 15 of their opening 23 matches to truly assert themselves as title contenders. Despite there still being plenty to play for, Liverpool are already putting the wheels in motion ahead of the summer transfer window.

Barcelona star Fati, who is on loan at Brighton, is among the forwards to have been linked with a move to the Reds at the end of the season. However, those plans could be scuppered before negotiations even get underway. The La Liga outfit have been following the winger’s progress closely and are aware that it will be tricky to lure him away from the Seagulls. But Barca feel that they may have the key to unlocking negotiations with Brighton in the shape of Fati.

The Camp Nou outfit are said to be hopeful of using the 21-year-old as a makeweight in a player-plus-cash deal for Mitoma, having ruled that the Spain international is unlikely to have a future at the club. Fati snubbed a loan move to Tottenham in favor of joining Brighton over the summer and he managed to hit the ground running at the Amex Stadium, scoring four in 14 appearances for Roberto De Zerbi’s side. Disaster struck in November though when the playmaker sustained a hamstring injury, and he only returned to action over the weekend. Liverpool are among the outfits to have reportedly been keeping a close eye on Fati’s performances since his Premier League arrival, and they will be hoping that Barca opt against using the talented prospect in negotiations for Mitoma so that they can strike a deal for him instead.
