Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou may miss out on the transfer of Sebastian Szymanski, who could decide to sign a new contract with Fenerbahce. The Polish attacking midfielder has attracted interest from Spurs after an impressive season with 12 goals and 14 assists in all competitions.
Postecoglou reportedly sent scouts to watch Szymanski in action, expressing keen interest in having him in the Spurs squad next season. However, it has been revealed that no transfer will occur in the current window, and Fenerbahce will open talks about Szymanski’s future in February or March.
The Turkish club may offer a pay rise to persuade him to stay for another season, but his future will depend on potential offers. Szymanski joined Fenerbahce last summer from Dynamo Moscow, with his current deal running until 2027.
He previously had a successful loan spell with Feyenoord and has 30 caps for Poland. Postecoglou has revamped the Spurs team, leading to strong performances, but the team now faces a challenge to secure a top-four finish in the league after a recent dip in form.
Currently fifth in the table, Spurs are three points behind fourth-place Aston Villa.
