Max Eberl expressed anger after Bayern Munich’s recent loss. The team, who are unlikely to retain their title after 11 consecutive league victories, initially led 2-0 at half-time through goals from Harry Kane and Serge Gnabry, but ultimately lost 3-2.
This defeat left them 16 points behind the expected champions Bayer Leverkusen, with only six games remaining. Their second-place position is now uncertain with only goal difference separating them from Stuttgart.
Additionally, their season relies heavily on the upcoming Champions League quarter-final match against Arsenal. Despite manager Thomas Tuchel’s imminent departure, there is speculation that he may be relieved of his duties earlier due to the team’s faltering performance in the title race.
Eberl emphasized his concern about avoiding a heavy defeat against Arsenal rather than making a new appointment. He stated, “Now it’s all about the Arsenal game.
We’ll face a team that – with all respect to Heidenheim – is a class above them. We have to make a proper turnaround so that we don’t get a slap to the face.”
Eberl did not appear confident that Bayern Munich could defy the current odds, and when asked if there were any reasons to be positive before the trip to north London, he responded, “I can’t think of anything at the moment.” Tuchel himself was unable to explain the defeat and admitted that it was difficult to explain the team’s collapse.
The upcoming task against Arsenal seems daunting, as the Gunners are in good form, being unbeaten in 13 games in all competitions. They are expected to seek revenge for their previous loss to Bayern Munich in 2017.
This game seems even more challenging as both players and fans seem to be at odds with Tuchel.
