The recent draw against Liverpool has done little to ease speculation about his potential sacking in the summer. During the game, United were largely outperformed, failing to register a single shot in the first half and recording a significantly lower expected goals tally than Liverpool. Many have criticized Ten Hag for failing to implement a clear playing style or show progress on the pitch during his two-year tenure at United. Speculation suggests that Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the club’s owner, may decide to replace Ten Hag with a new manager in the summer.

Names like Julian Nagelsmann and Gareth Southgate have been linked with the position, but United is reportedly not engaging with potential candidates at this stage. INEOS has reportedly had ‘positive discussions’ with Ten Hag regarding his future at Old Trafford. As it stands, he is contracted until the summer of 2025, with the club having the option to extend his deal by another 12 months. It remains to be seen whether INEOS will appoint a new manager for next season or give Ten Hag another year to turn things around.

Ten Hag himself remains focused on his job and the project at United, expressing his commitment and determination to lead the team in the right direction.
