Arsenal’s iconic Invincibles team of 2003-04, managed by Arsène Wenger, remains the only English side to go unbeaten in an entire top-flight season since 1900. However, current manager Mikel Arteta’s team is leading the Premier League by a single point, although Manchester City still has a game in hand. To avoid further slip-ups, Arteta has sought the assistance of Wenger and hopes his players can navigate a tough run-in that includes the upcoming North London Derby. Despite their recent 5-0 victory over London rivals Chelsea, Arsenal’s 2-0 defeat against Aston Villa has put Manchester City in control of the situation, especially since Pep Guardiola’s side will play five more matches compared to Arsenal’s four.
Although recent defeats have likely ruled out Liverpool from the title race, Arteta believes that it is not just a two-horse race between Arsenal and City. The 42-year-old stated, “I don’t think so. This league is tremendously demanding and there can be still a lot of turns. We know what we have to do to win this league.”
