Arsenal could pile the misery on Manchester United by hijacking a transfer move for a long-time Erik ten Hag favourite. Mikel Arteta’s side managed to snap a run of three consecutive winless outings against Wolves on Saturday afternoon. Last weekend’s defeat to Aston Villa was sandwiched between two poor showings against Bayern Munich, as Arsenal limped out of the Champions League in disappointing fashion.

And while analysing the tie on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, former Arsenal man Wright said: “That’s why I will have patience with this team because they still have to learn those things. Then you do need, I don’t care what anyone says, someone with X-factor, someone with a Kevin De Bruyne vibe, they make something happen.”

While finding a Kevin De Bruyne-level player might be a step too far for the Arsenal recruitment team, the Gunners could still land their own midfield maestro, with De Jong rumoured to be on the move this summer. Frenkie De Jong could be on the move this summer. (Image: Getty)

The story suggests Bayern Munich are the side currently leading the pursuit, and while De Jong is said to be happy at Barcelona, it’s said a sizeable offer could tempt the La Liga outfit.

With cash hard to come by in Barcelona, there is talk that an offer of £50million could be enough to land the ex-Ajax man’s services. De Jong was a priority target for United during the 2022 summer window, with the Red Devils said to have tabled a £63million bid. In the end, the move fizzled out, with De Jong opting to stay in Spain instead. Speaking about the saga in September 2022, De Jong said: “I always wanted to stay at Barcelona and this is why I always remained calm in the summer. “I can’t give too much details away. But look.. the club has it’s own ideas and I have my own ideas too and sometimes this clashes with each other.

But at the end of the day things went okay.” Should Arsenal wish to lure him to the Emirates Stadium this summer, the Gunners will likely have to convince De Jong into a sharp U-turn.
