Erik ten Hag needs to prove his worth for Manchester United between now and the end of the season. Manchester United supporters have widely criticized Cristiano Ronaldo for a social media post following Thursday’s collapse against Chelsea.
The post, shared moments after the game, has been seen as a sign of Ronaldo reveling in his former club’s misfortune at Stamford Bridge. The 39-year-old shared a photo of himself in an Al-Nassr tracksuit and cap, alongside a Saudi Arabian flag, with the caption “happy days” and a green love heart. This social media activity has caused outrage among United fans. There is belief that Ronaldo’s post was a cheeky dig at Ten Hag, who had been making changes to the team’s style of play.
Ronaldo’s reaction to being dropped from the team by Ten Hag and subsequent refusal to come on as a substitute in a game against Tottenham Hotspur led to his contract being terminated by Manchester United. This paved the way for a move to Saudi Arabia. Ronaldo later criticized Ten Hag during an interview, stating, “I don’t have respect for him [Ten Hag] because he doesn’t show respect for me. If you don’t have respect for me, I’m never gonna have respect for you.”
