Since leaving Manchester City last summer, Palmer has become an important player for Chelsea, scoring 23 goals and registering 13 assists in all competitions this season. He also became the first Blues player to score two hat-tricks in one Premier League season during their recent match against Everton. Chelsea are planning to open talks with Palmer’s camp over a new deal before he represents England at Euro 2024.
Although he is currently tied down until 2030, the club is keen to ensure that his earnings reflect his importance. Palmer currently earns around £80,000 per week, significantly less than many of his Chelsea team-mates. Raheem Sterling, for example, earns around £325,000 per week, leaving a large disparity between their incomes despite Sterling scoring fewer goals.
The new deal may include performance-related bonuses to incentivize Palmer to continue performing well. Since joining Chelsea from Manchester City last summer, Palmer has quickly become a household name. Guardiola, the City boss, has defended his decision to let Palmer join Chelsea, acknowledging his exceptional potential and expressing happiness for his success.
Guardiola admitted that Palmer wanted more playing time, which he couldn’t offer, and that he’s pleased to see Palmer thriving at Chelsea.
