Reports suggest that Liverpool will be able to sign Xabi Alonso for a reduced fee in the summer of 2025, thanks to a release clause in his contract. The midfielder, who is currently at Bayer Leverkusen, was previously linked with a move to Liverpool and was also sought after by Bayern Munich.
However, it is now believed that his release clause will make him available for just £13 million next year. Liverpool had considered interviewing Alonso as part of their search for Jurgen Klopp’s successor, but the activation of his release clause in 2025 is a more viable option for the club.
They may face competition from Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, who could also be interested in signing Alonso. As Liverpool continues its search for a new manager, Sporting boss Ruben Amorim is considered a leading contender for the role.
Amorim, who has also been linked with Chelsea, has refused to provide any guarantees about his future, stating that he must honor his commitment to Sporting and cannot make any decisions until their current season is concluded. It is evident that there is uncertainty surrounding Liverpool’s managerial situation and potential transfer targets, as the club navigates through the process of finding a suitable successor for Klopp and planning for the future.
