Southgate’s Move to Man Utd Could Impact Arsenal Star Significantly

Gareth Southgate is open to Ben White returning to the England squad, as reported by The Daily Mail. White, who currently has no interest in playing for England, might reconsider if Manchester United make a move for Southgate. Southgate has left the door open for White despite him previously asking not to be considered for selection in the last international break. It is noted that while Southgate and assistant manager Steve Holland remain in their roles, White will not come back to the squad, as he considers the issue closed and wants his decision respected.

However, there is a possibility that Southgate could leave his post after the Euros, as reported by The Daily Star. New United part-owners INEOS are admirers of Southgate, and Erik ten Hag, the current boss at Old Trafford, is in jeopardy unless the club can finish the season strong and secure a top-five finish in the Premier League. If Southgate were to leave the national team set-up to take over at United, it could prompt a rethink from White, especially if Holland were to depart from his position as the assistant manager. The Athletic reported an alleged exchange between White and Holland during the Qatar World Cup, and it’s mentioned that White left the England camp due to personal reasons two years ago.

Despite reports of tension, Southgate has publicly denied any fall-out between Holland and White. Southgate has made it clear that White would be welcome back in the England squad, expressing his desire for the door to remain open for the player. White, known for his ability to play at right-back and centre-back, would have been a contender for the Euros, but Southgate will have to consider alternative options. The situation could change after the tournament, depending on developments for both Southgate and White.
