Martin Odegaard recently replaced Luka Modric in a rare appearance for Real Madrid. Meanwhile, there is speculation that Arda Guler may soon follow a similar career path to that of an Arsenal star as he potentially moves to the Premier League.
Last summer, Turkish international Arda Guler transferred to the Bernabeu from Fenerbahce in a £17 million deal. However, with midfielder Jude Bellingham ahead of him, Guler has struggled to secure game time under coach Carlo Ancelotti, having only made two La Liga appearances.
Real Madrid is considering loan offers as a means to allow Guler to develop, similar to the approach taken with Odegaard. Guler has encountered challenges in obtaining significant playing time at Real Madrid so far.
It is suggested that Guler’s career trajectory may parallel that of Martin Odegaard, who is currently the captain of Arsenal and an essential player for their Premier League title campaign. Odegaard joined Real Madrid in 2016 at the age of 16, but only made 11 first-team appearances in seven-and-a-half years, including loan spells in Holland, Spain, and eventually North London.
Odegaard is now a key player in the Premier League and was included in the PFA Premier League team of the Year last season. Furthermore, he was named Arsenal Player of the Year in the 2022/23 season.
It is uncertain whether Guler would secure a regular starting position under Postecoglou, given the strong performances of players such as James Maddison and Pape Sarr this season. However, due to a series of injuries, the manager welcomes the addition of quality options to the squad.
Guler has already earned four international caps and showcased his potential in a Euro 2024 qualifier against Wales, where he scored a goal.
