Tottenham defender Radu Dragusin was determined to join the Premier League and turned down a larger offer from Napoli, according to their president, Aurelio De Laurentiis. Despite the Italian club’s best financial offer, Dragusin opted to sign with Spurs in a £25m deal during the January transfer window. His standout performances in Serie A had attracted interest from several top European clubs.
De Laurentiis disclosed that Napoli’s offer was the biggest, but Dragusin’s strong desire to play in the Premier League ultimately led him to choose Tottenham over other options. The president expressed his disappointment, stating, “Genoa replied to me: ‘Bayern Munich are also there, but the boy really wants England.'” The 22-year-old defender was convinced by Tottenham’s plans for his future, having been impressed by their approach during discussions regarding his departure from Genoa.
Since joining Spurs, Dragusin has made appearances in three Premier League matches, entering as a substitute in each game. Confirming his decision to reject Bayern Munich in favor of Tottenham, Dragusin explained that he felt the move to Spurs was the right step for him and emphasized the positive conversations he had with the coach. He acknowledged Tottenham’s early interest in signing him, which contributed to his decision.
In a separate matter, Timo Werner’s arrival from RB Leipzig on an initial loan deal with the potential for a permanent transfer in the summer was also highlighted.
