Erik ten Hag, the Manchester United manager, is reportedly interested in recruiting two of Bayer Leverkusen’s top players. According to reports, they are considering a move for Jeremie Frimpong and Edmond Tapsoba. Both players have been linked with the Red Devils for some time, as ten Hag aims to strengthen the defensive lineup in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Under the guidance of Xabi Alonso, who took charge of Leverkusen in 2022, Frimpong and Tapsoba have played pivotal roles for the team. The players have been instrumental in the club’s success, remaining unbeaten in the league season and taking a big step towards the title with a 3-0 win over Bayern Munich, their closest challengers. Manchester United are seeking to bolster their squad in defense for the next season.
Ten Hag is eager to add a center-back and a right-back to the team. United had previously held discussions about signing Frimpong last year, but the deal did not materialize, and the player remained in Germany. However, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s contract set to expire in 2025 and the potential for his sale, the club is in the market for a new right-back.
Additionally, Tapsoba, who committed to a long-term contract with Leverkusen last summer, is under contract until 2028. This could make him more expensive for any club looking to sign him in 2024. Bayer Leverkusen values him highly and believes he is worth more than the previously reported fee of €40-45 million.
It remains uncertain whether Manchester United will pursue him in 2024, as the decision will be based on his performance this season.
