Bruno Guimaraes is reportedly a target for Real Madrid and PSG. Newcastle United’s sporting director Dan Ashworth may need to sell Bruno Guimaraes during the summer and replace him on the cheap due to the Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules.
Luton Town’s Ross Barkley could be the answer to their prayers, with six goal contributions in 17 Premier League appearances and impressive passing displays from central midfield. Newcastle and Ashworth got a close look at Barkley on Saturday as he scored one and set up another in a 4-4 draw at St James’ Park.
Barkley was reportedly offered to Newcastle last summer and could be available for free. The length of his Luton contract officially remains undisclosed.
The midfielder spent five seasons at Chelsea but only made more than 20 Premier League appearances in two of them. His spell in Ligue 1 with Nice only lasted one season, and a loan stint at Aston Villa in 2020/21 failed to result in a permanent transfer.
Newcastle could offer Barkley the opportunity to fight for European qualification, a better chance of working his way back into the England set-up, and greater security over his Premier League status. The Magpies’ midfield may undergo a drastic reshuffle during the summer.
